About the Artwork
Untitled XXXIX of XL is a 30 × 30 cm pen and ink on canvas drawing by Tariq Gill. The work forms part of a group of 40 untitled drawings, presented as individual compositions within the artist’s drawing practice.
Rather than assigning descriptive titles to the individual works, the numbering identifies each drawing within the group while leaving its visual experience open to the viewer.
Curatorial Context
The 40 untitled pen and ink drawings form a cohesive body of small-format works in which each composition can be encountered independently while also belonging to a larger group. Their shared medium and format establish a visual continuity across the works, while the absence of individual titles leaves the drawings open to personal interpretation.
Thirty-six of the drawings were presented together in a six-by-six grid at Ecosystem of Fantasies, curated by Minahil Ahmed at Muse Art Gallery, Lahore, in May 2026. Four additional drawings were previously exhibited at End of the Line, curated by Rakhshanda Atawar at Kaleido Kontemporary, Lahore, in November 2024.
The numbering serves as an archival means of identifying the individual works rather than defining their meaning, allowing viewers to engage directly with the lines, forms, gestures, and compositions of each drawing.
